What Makes a Kegerator a Guinness® Kegerator?
St. Patrick's Day is all about celebrating Irish culture, camaraderie, and, of course, enjoying a pint of Guinness. What better way to elevate your festivities than with a Guinness kegerator? With a kegerator, you can serve perfectly poured pints at home, keeping your beer fresh and cold all day long. No more waiting in line at the pub or dealing with warm, flat cans-just smooth, creamy Guinness on tap whenever you need it. Whether you're hosting a party or having an intimate gathering, a Guinness kegerator ensures your St. Patrick's Day celebration is as legendary as the beer itself!

Suitable for Stout Beer
A Guinness kegerator differs from a standard kegerator mainly because Guinness is a nitrogen-dispensed beer rather than a typical CO₂-carbonated beer. Here's what makes a kegerator suitable for Guinness:
- Nitrogen Gas - Guinness requires nitrogen gas to achieve its signature creamy head and smooth pour. A standard kegerator only uses CO₂.
- Stout Faucet (Nitrogen Tap) - Instead of a standard beer tap, a Guinness kegerator uses a stout faucet with a restrictor plate that forces nitrogen bubbles through the beer, creating the signature cascading effect.
- Guinness Keg Coupler (Type U System Coupler) - Guinness kegs require a Type U keg coupler, which is different from the more common American Sankey (D-type) coupler.
- Correct Pressure Setting - A Guinness kegerator typically runs at 30-40 PSI, compared to standard kegerators that operate at much lower pressures (10-15 PSI for CO₂).
- Temperature Control - Guinness is best served colder than most stouts, around 38-42°F (3-6°C). A kegerator designed for Guinness should allow precise temperature control.
If you want to convert a regular kegerator into a Guinness kegerator, you'd need to swap out the gas tank, regulator, faucet, and keg coupler to match these specifications. Our Guinness® Dispensing Kegerator Conversion Kits supply you with everything you need to have your kegerator Guinness® beer ready!

Choosing the Right Glassware
For Guinness and other stout beers, the right glassware enhances both the aroma and the drinking experience. The most common types of glassware for stouts are:
- Pint Glass: This is the classic glassware for Guinness. It's a sturdy glass with a slight bulge near the top, which helps prevent it from slipping out of your hand. The wide opening allows the aromas to concentrate, making it easier to enjoy the complex scent of the beer. It holds 16 oz, which is the standard serving size.
- Snifter Glass: The elegant tulip-shaped glass, with a wide rounded bowl and narrow top, is also great for stouts. Often used for stronger or barrel-aged stouts, this glass is typically used for sipping. Its wide, rounded bowl helps you concentrate the aromas while allowing the beer to breathe.
- Pub Glass: The pub glass boasts a classic look and ergonomic curved design, making it perfect for serving beer at your bar, pub, tasting room or restaurant. Crystal clear glass construction make it the choice to showcase your beer in any commercial or residential setting.
